Stained glass hearts representing our family
Stained glass hearts representing our family

April 2025 - It was Easter not too long ago, and your great Aunt Terri gave your great Grandma Nancy a gift that is all about our family. A young man Aunt Terri knows makes stained glass, and she had him make stained glass hearts in the colours of our birthstones. Grandma will be able to hang them in her house and think of her two daughters (Aunt Terri and me), and her three grandchildren (Aunt Tuesday, Aunt Tiffany and your mom) and her three great grandchildren, including you.

The biggest is a large red one, for Grandma and her July birthstone, a ruby. On either side of that is mine and Aunt Terri's. We were born in February and our birthstone is the amethyst, that is purple, although they look a little blue here. Aunt Tuesday's is also the amethyst for her February birthday.

Aunt Tiffany and your cousin Orrin, who only lived for three days, have the garnet as their birthstone for January. His brother, your cousin Hadrian, was born in March, 2024, and has aquamarine as his stone.

Your mom's heart is golden and brown for her birthstone, the topaz, for November-born people, and yours is the beautiful deep blue sapphire for your September birthday. It has the M by it so you can tell what one is yours. Some day you will also get a sapphire ring that is mine so you will have your birthstone to wear on your finger.

Why 17?

For some reason that I can't explain, 17 is a special number in our family. Yes, it's my birthday (February 17) but your mom's birthday...
