Four generations of fabulous

These are some of my favourite pictures of us together because your mom and great-grandmother are in it too. There are four generations here: your Great Grandma Nancy Hanes, me, your mom and of course, you, our marvellous Mallory. Your great grandmother really, really wanted a photo of us all together so we made it happen on a warm late summer day along West Beach in Cobourg. You were almost two years old.

These photos also required some photography magic, as we didn’t have an extra person along to take our photos with the camera. So, we put the camera on a tripod, set the timer on it for about five seconds, so it would wait a few seconds to take the picture.

I can’t remember if I set the timer or you Mom did, then I (or she) ran back to join the rest of you and get in the picture at the last second. You wouldn't know from looking at the top picture, where we all look like we are slowly strolling, that one of us had just done a mad dash from the camera to join the line before it took our picture.

Nana wanted our outfits to match a bit so we decided on blue and purple. Your mom didn’t have anything purple, so she wore one of my purple and blue dresses that has butterflies on it. It's one of my favourite dresses and I think it looked prettier on her than me.

After we walked along the boardwalk, we went and sat on this log along the beach, then in a wooden gazebo at the ecology garden that’s across from the beach. I have the photo of the four of us hanging in my living room so I can look at it every day and Great Grandma has one of just you and her, sitting on the log, proudly displayed in her house. She loves that photo so much because it is so special to her to have you as her great granddaughter.

I also love these photos because it was a lot of fun taking them. The boardwalk and West Beach was a special place for you and me. Sometimes when I was looking after you while your Mom was at work, we’d go for walks here, or Pepere would come too and show you how to make stones skip across the water.
